Why Used Car Dealerships Rock
I have the worst luck. Seriously, if something bad is going to happen, it’s going to happen to me. My last car payment had just cleared. I was looking forward to not having a car payment. And what happens? I total my car.
Now, that wouldn’t be so bad, but I’d also just moved into a more expensive apartment. See, I’d planned on not having my car payment and having a few extra hundred dollars in my budget so I was moving into a bigger place. I should have had more than enough to cover it. Until the accident.
I don’t want to get into details because I’m still really mad at myself about it. Let’s just say that technically I was at fault because I was the only vehicle involved but it wasn’t really my fault. Anyway, when I realized that I was somehow going to have to afford my new rent and get another car, I realized that a new car wasn’t in my future. So, I headed out to the used car dealerships around me.
I have to admit, I’m a bit of a snob. I was one of those people who would look down on people who bought used cars because I didn’t think they were as good. But when I really thought about it, the car I totaled was 5 years old with about 65,000 miles on it and I was hoping to keep it for at least another 4 years or so. What was the difference, really?
There were a lot of great used cars for sale online. I found a few I liked and spend a day going around from dealership to dealership until I found something that was perfect for me. It was actually the same make as my totaled car but a more compact model, a toyota yaris. That actually ended up being perfect because I was worried about how I was going to parallel park my old car in front of my new apartment anyway.
So, in the end, everything turned out really well. Better than I could have expected, all things considered. Of course, I wish that the accident had never happened, if only because of the stress it caused me. But everything worked out okay in the end. While I still have a car payment, it’s much less than it used to be. I love my new place. And my used car.
